WELCOME TO SCARBOROUGH FOLK DANCE GROUP

Happy Christmas and a very Happy New Year to all!!

We're closed now until Tuesday 10th January 2006 at 7.30 pm at Gladstone Road Junior School, Scarborough - we'll see you then

Founded in 1913 as a branch of the English Folk Dance Society, it covered a large

area of North Yorkshire where classes were arranged in many country villages. It

is now an affiliated club of the EFDSS and is proud of its long tradition, having

continued ceaselessly throughout two World Wars and many changes in the Folk

World.

The club's aim is to promote Folk Dances in the traditional form but the repertoire

of the two instructors also includes social and square dancing along with the Playford,

Fallibroome and many others.

Its members are drawn from all ages and styles of life and visitors are most welcome to

any of its club meetings and dances where a happy atmosphere reigns throughout.

Club meetings are held each Tuesday at present during term time at Gladstone Road

Junior School in the Town centre, and monthly dances throughout the Winter take place

at the Jubilee Hall, Cayton, a village some two miles from the Town centre.

The weekly club meetings are performed to piano music, and the monthly dances enjoy

a Ceilidh band.

The Group has held several notable celebrations in the past, the most recent being its

90th Anniversary when the party was presenced by the Mayor and Mayoress of

Scarborough and senior members of the English Folk Dance and Song Society.

Details of other weekly meetings, and the locally based band are on another page.
